moving backwards

I don’t know if it is just me or not, but I am the only one getting worried that this country is moving towards becoming a radical religious state, no different from other religious states that exist now?  It is hard to believe that the radical right cannot see this and at least worry about it as well.  History shows that there can only be one winner in a religious state, and that is the party in power.  There is no dissent either.  With so many different kinds of fundamentalist Christian groups out there, who is going to control the power?  I can only hope that the Democrats will take over more of the House/Senate to at least slow this dangerous slide backwards.
What makes me think about all of this stuff is that there were numerous anti-abortion rallies around the country and even the emperor here put in his two cents.  He knows that Alito will overturn Roe vs Wade, and many women will die because of it.  But he only cares about the life of those who support him, unless they are soldiers, and their lives don’t count for very much.  Why is it that these people like who claim to be against abortion (which is fine to be against abortion–as I said before, I don’t like the idea of it, but it is not my place to block people from getting one!) and are pro-life are for a war that has killed, at least according to bush, 25,000 Iraqis and over 2,000 Americans.
I would feel better about the whole pro-life movement if they would pledge to put their money where their mouth is–why don’t they start up a fund that will pay for all of the babies that will be born when they make abortion illegal and cut off contraceptives (yes, that is the next big issue in the near future).  They won’t, because they don’t want them.  It will be put on the shoulders of these women who did not want the babies in the first place.  You can bet that there will be a massive increase in child abuse, child abandonment and child death because of the overturning of Roe vs. Wade.  You can also bet that they will not let Doug and I adopt even a single one of these neglected babies, because as everyone knows, gay couples cannot be good parents.  I really hope that everyone will think about what the overturning of this will mean.  I just cannot imagine that women (and most men for that matter) will take this gently, nor should they.  I don’t know if civil disobedience will do anything to help, but I think they/we should be planning on doing something…
