Day of Truth? Or Day of Lies? Or Day of Hate?

Today, the Alliance Defence Fund has pushed the so-called "Day of Truth" onto schools as a way of countering yesterday’s Day of Silence (a protest against all the hate and discrimination that gay and lesbian students have to deal with in schools and universities).   On this Day of Truth, as discussed on the official website,  students are to wear t-shirts and pass out cards:

I am speaking the Truth to break the silence.
Silence isn’t freedom. It’s a constraint.
Truth tolerates open discussion, because the Truth emerges when healthy discourse is allowed.
By proclaiming the Truth in love, hurts will be halted, hearts will be healed, and lives will be saved.

Silence may not be freedom, but these "christian" lawyers who put this together are, as usual, missing the point.  Students are silent to remind other classmates and teachers the abuse they have to put up with.  They state "truth emerges when healthy discourse is allowed"–this is totally agree with.  But what kind of healthy discourse are they advocating?  My truth is your truth and it you don’t follow my truth, you will go to hell.  Notice they say that "lives will be saved" at the end.  This has a double meaning for these fundies–1) homosexuals will not be saved if they "remain" homosexuals and 2) they are also implying that to be gay or lesbian is to be diseased.  What nice, healthy discourse.

And what another money-making scheme.  Their website, of course, can provide all the materials you might need.  For 10 bucks you can get a t-shirt, 25 cards to pass out and a DVD, all of which probably cost a dollar.  That is a pretty hefty profit for those lawyers.  Notice too that the Alliance Defence Fund has their logo all over the material, in case you forget who is really putting this on.  You can also donate money to the cause–so actually this isn’t costing the ADF anything and they are making wads of cash from these kids.  It is also a tax-exempt company!  Ah, I just love capitalism.

And in case you were wondering, the Alliance Defense Fund was set up by people like Dobson, who runs the "Focus on the Family" group.  So you can see what kind of truth you are going to get from the ADF.
