Freedom to Marry Day

Here in California, some gay and lesbian couples go to their county clerk’s office on Valentine’s Day to ask for a marriage license, and since there is no gay marriage in California yet, they are turned away.  One county clerk has stirred up the fundamentalists by issuing the couples a ‘certificate of inequality.’

365Gay.com is reporting today that many other county clerks support gay marriage will be in Sacramento on Wednesday (Valentine’s Day) when Assemblyman Leno will introduce his same bill from last year to make gay marriage legal.

Along those same lines, Doug and I will be able, for the first time, to file joint state income tax returns next year (2008).  We thought we were already registered, since we registered in Berkeley in 1996 as a Domestic Partnership.  But it turns out that we have to register with the State to do that, so we’ll do it soon.
