Egypt blogger jailed for ‘insult’

I hardly ever think of Egypt as being a totalitarian state, but the more I learn about it, the more I realize that this is not the case.  The BBC is reporting that an Egyptian student has been thrown in prison for four years for saying what he thinks on his blog.  The judge took all of five minutes to find him guilty.

What did he do to deserve four years in an Egyptian prison?  He criticized an Islamic university and called Mubarak, the President of Egypt, a dictator.  He got on year just for the dictator comment!

The blogger is only 22.

So what is our fearless leader going to do about spreading freedom to Egypt?  Will Bush dare to speak out against Egypt?  I find it unlikely, but I can always hope.
