Why Can’t People Read? Or Why do People Lie?

Here is yet another person who thinks that the proposed hate crime legislation will block free speech.  It was posted on YouTube on June 15.  It is also clear that this person doesn’t realize that it has already passed in the House.

Before watching it, here is part of the proposed legislation (which is available to anyone who wants to read it):

SEC. 8. RULE OF CONSTRUCTION.

Nothing in this Act, or the amendments made by this Act, shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct protected from legal prohibition by, or any activities protected by the free speech or free exercise clauses of, the First Amendment to the Constitution.

Passed the House of Representatives May 3, 2007.

Here is the YouTube video (and notice this poor boy who has to listen to this–let’s hope that he is like a lot of other kids and is more interested in being recorded than listening to this guy):

I also left a message at this YouTube site and left the bit of legislation this guy clearly had not read:

What a big lie. If these people would actually read the legislation itself, they would read Sec. 8 Rules of Construction:
Nothing in this Act, or the amendments made by this Act, shall be construed to prohibit any expressive conduct protected from legal prohibition by, or any activities protected by the free speech or free exercise clauses of, the First Amendment to the Constitution.
Thus anyone who says that this legislation would stop someone from saying what they think is lying.
