James Holsinger and his nomination to Surgeon General

Well, it looks like the religious right’s posterboy for Surgeon General is quickly going down hill now that Holsinger has come out and apologized for what he had written>  Ouch–that must have really hurt people like Peter LaBarbera who just a couple of days ago (July 11) wrote about his support for Holsinger because of his notorious gay-sex paper:

The pro-homosexuality Left is working hard to take down another good Christian man — this time it’s Dr. James Holsinger, President Bush’s nominee for U.S. Surgeon General.  Holsinger’s first confirmation hurdle is tomorrow, July 12th, when he appears before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension (HELP) Committee.

But now that Holsinger has come out and apologized, Peter LaBarbera has pulled his weighty support from Holsinger.   First a poster-boy for the anti-gay activists because he seemed to agree with their cause, but now that he has said he was wrong, they are dropping him like a hot potato.  It doesn’t really matter what Holsinger has to say now because none of them want to hear about it–and some of them even say that despite his comments repudiating the paper, what he had written was still correct!  Peter LaBarbera even says that he will support this nominee if he once again changes his mind!

And so we reverse ourselves and urge the Senate to deny confirmation to Dr. James Holsinger for U.S. Surgeon General, with the proviso that we will return to his side should he discover the internal fortitude to put truth above politics and speak out on the special health hazards of homosexuality.

It must be a first for Peter LaBarbera to agree with the ‘pro-homosexual Left’!

What Peter LaBarbera and others are really upset about is that their cherished belief that gay sex is dangerous and deadly is based on a lie and based more on religious beliefs rather than scientific fact.
