This must take the cake in ridiculousness. Pam at Pam’s House Blend has an article about a group called SoulWinners Ministries. They paraded themselves around some campuses with signs like the one below:
I have to say that this really pissed me off when I saw it. They decided to show these signs on Sept. 11. Notice they don’t say anything about the real terrorists. This group must be made up of some real winners…Here is part of their Welcome Page:
Fulfilling Christ’s Great Commission to “go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15) and “go ye therefore and teach all nations” (Matthew 28:19), the Soulwinners Team has traveled throughout the United States as well as internationally proclaiming the Biblical Message of “repentance toward God, faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 20:21), and “living as witnesses unto Christ” (Acts 1:8), in open-air meetings on college campuses, in street preaching meetings, in churches, and in every public place.
Now what kind of ‘good news’ are they preaching here? That gays and lesbians are a threat to national security? And what are they teaching? That we are terrorists that are out to destroy our own country? What kind of ‘living witnesses’ are these people? Their message is one that calls for violence. It is not ever going to make one gay man or lesbian convert to Christianity because they are told they are terrorists.
They are quite the group. They list a huge number of things they do not want people to do. Here is just a partial list (!):
Every time that you: acted selfishly, hated others, were jealous of others, were prejudiced against others, harbored sexual desire towards anyone that you were not married to, disobeyed your parents or guardians, spent more time focused on material things than on God, spoke God’s Name without respect, neglected to spend one out of every seven days in unbroken prayer, praise, thanksgiving and Bible Study to God, murdered people physically or inwardly through your dislike for and slander of them, looked with sexual desire at people whom you weren’t married to (a male husband with a female wife)…masturbated, looked at pornography, engaged in homosexual or lesbian sex, had sex with animals, raped anyone, molested children, lived for pleasure, desired, worked, prayed, for monetary wealth, spent more time working for money than studying the Bible and praying, participated in Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Zoroastrianism, Bahaism, Shintoism, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witness, Satanism, Wicca, paganism, witchcraft, Rosicrucianism, Judaism, New Age, animism, shamanism, magic, Klu Klux Klan, Black Panthers, nationalism, patriotism, or any belief system besides the Bible belief in Jesus Christ as the only Lord, God and Savior of mankind, drank alcohol, smoked cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, pipes, used marijuana, cocaine, crack, crank, heroin, meta-amphetamine, or any other drug, spent more time playing or watching sports, watching TV, movies, videos, DVDs, becoming physically fit, attempting to lose weight, listening to music, working on a business, working on a ministry, attending a building called a church, doing school work, sleeping, eating, cooking, cleaning, working, walking, talking on the phone, working on the computer, surfing the internet, spending time with family, or anything else, than loving, obeying, praying to, studying the Bible about, telling others about , the Lord Jesus Christ, you have sinned against God, broken His Laws, and will be cast into the Lake of Fire as punishment for your selfish and rebellious choice to live to please yourself, instead of living to Biblically love, obey, and please Christ, and serve your fellow human beings.
Are these people for real? So you can’t watch TV, work out, lose weight, do school work? They want you to constantly pray to Christ, and if you don’t you are doomed? Obviously these people haven’t thought about the practical side of living (and I bet that these people are guilty of living without constantly praying–they must feel very guilty about sleeping and dreaming!). What a horrible life to lead.
This group is run by Michael and Tamika Venyah. They don’t have real jobs except for traveling around and yelling and screaming at people They rely on family and friends for everything they have, including food. Here is what an article in the State News had to say about them:
Without steady incomes, the couple relies on family, friends and people who seek out their ministry and provide shelter, transportation and food for them. Michael and Tamika Venyah are expecting their first child, a boy, in the coming week and are staying with friends and family while in the Lansing area.
"We don’t have earthly employment," Michael Venyah said.
Here is another example of what this guy has to say:
"While you’re in sin, you’re not in glory at all. While you masturbate, you’re going to hell," exclaimed Michael Venyah, a self-proclaimed Gospel preacher, wearing a shirt with the words "No Homos go to Heaven! All Homos go to Hell!" written on the front and back. "There’s a lot of masturbators here, especially the homos, the perverts. They watch these pervert videos and touch themselves."
It sounds to me like these people are slightly ‘off their rocker.’ I think it is rather hilarious that they give this huge list of things that people shouldn’t do, but they don’t list not getting a job or having family and friends support them when they don’t want to work.
It is also interesting that I cannot find their organization listed in GuideStar, the list of non-profits.
