Someone let Peter LaBarbera, the man who has spent his whole life vilifying gays and lesbians, into the National Press Club to give a speech and to show video from the Folsom Street Fair. I wonder when they will next have Fred Phelps on? LaBarbera has never explained why he has spent his adult life on a witch hunt against gays and lesbians and the more I read about him, the more I think he is like DL Foster. DL Foster is an ex-gay and spends all of his time vilifying gays and lesbians as well, just to prove to the world how sanctified he is by God and how straight he is because of his merciless attacks on gays and lesbians.
Anyway, LaBarbera and his friend Allyson Smith made a special trip all the way to San Francisco to be part of the Folsom Street Fair. They went to the Fair and then took video and pictures. We all know how much LaBarbera likes to take pictures and video of gays and lesbians–especially gay men. He apparently had a room full of pornography and leather suits when he worked at the Illinois Family Institute…(and it is also interesting that the Illinois Family Institute is hosting LaBarbera’s speech on their YouTube site). So during his ‘speech’ at the Press Club, he showed the video that was shot by the anti-gay activist (and friend of Stacy Harp) Allyson Smith.
So here is part of the ethical statement put out by the Press Club:
I believe in the profession of Journalism.
I believe that the public journal is a public trust; that all connected with it are, to the full measure of responsibility, trustees for the public; that acceptance of lesser service than the public service is a betrayal of this trust.
I believe that clear thinking, clear statement, accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism.
I believe that a journalist should write only what he holds in his heart to be true. I believe that suppression of the news, for any consideration other than the welfare of society, is indefensible.
I believe that no one should write as a journalist what he would not say as a gentleman; that bribery by one’s own pocket book is as much to be avoided as bribery by the pocketbook of another; that individual responsibility may not be escaped by pleading another’s instructions or another’s dividends.
I believe that advertising, news and editorial columns should alike serve the best interests of readers; that a single standard of helpful truth and cleanness should prevail for all; that supreme test of good journalism is the measure of its public ser vice.
I believe that the journalism which succeeds the best-and best deserves success-fears God and honors man; is stoutly independent; unmoved by pride of opinion or greed of power; constructive, tolerant but never careless, self-controlled, patient, always respectful of its readers but always unafraid, is quickly indignant at injustice; is unswayed by the appeal of the privilege or the clamor of the mob; seeks to give every man a chance, and as far as law, an honest wage and recognition of human brotherhood can make it so, an equal chance; is profoundly patriotic while sincerely promoting international good will and cementing world-comradeship, is a journalism of humanity, of and for today’s world.
So how did someone like Peter LaBarbera get into the Press Club? He has no public trust. He is not accurate, nor fair. He certainly writes what he holds dear to his heart–hatred of gays and lesbians. He is not a gentleman; he has no standard of truth except that he is on a witch hunt for gays and lesbians and will stop at nothing until we are all gone; he is only interested in his own pride (you can see that in every word he writes); he is not constructive, certainly not tolerant, nor self-controlled, nor respectful to others and so on.
I am calling on everyone to write an email to the Press Club and bitterly complain about the anti-gay activist they let in the door. Their email is:
Peter LaBarbera’s hatesite claims to be based on Christian principles, but he is not a Christian. He is only interested in making money of his hate and disgust of gays and lesbians. He should be warned that the time for vilifying gays and lesbians in this country is going the way of vilifying African Americans and all the other groups that have been vilified using religion. Soon this type of behavior will not be tolerated because it is nothing but hate. Soon LaBarbera will have to pick another group to pile his hate on.
It is also interesting that LaBarbera himself has made a ‘pornographic’ tape, at least according to Hannity and Colmes. I also find it interesting that in the video he took everyone is smiling at the camera for Allyson Smith and Peter LaBarbera. That tells me that they were encouraging these people to act for the camera–now here I am not saying that these people just did it for Smith and LaBarbera. But if these people knew who Smith and LaBarbera were, there is no way they would have paraded around in front of his camera for these two anti-gay activists.
And now they want to bring down Nancy Pelosi. I do find it hilarious that the announcer on the show the video was shown asked LaBarbera why he wasn’t attacking the Republican governor of the state (Schwarzenegger) but instead the Democrat Nancy Pelosi. And you will also notice that LaBarbera did NOT fly out to San Francisco to tape the heterosexual party that occurred here in San Francisco about a month ago (Erotic, Exotic Ball). He never mentions this in his conference. Why not? If LaBarbera is really concerned with ‘American values’ he would have used his non-profit’s money to fly back out to S.F., invite his female friend Allyson Smith to accompany him, and film at that Erotic, Exotic Ball. And will the two of them fly to New Orleans and film the Mardi Gras and the women’s breasts? Absolutely not because he isn’t interested in that. He only wants to make sure that gays and lesbians are destroyed and any rights we have taken away and shoved back in the closet.
