Our Big Christmas Present to Ourselves

Well, we made another bid on a house yesterday and we got it.  We are both a bit nervous and very excited!  If all goes according to plan, we should be able to move in the first week of January!  It is a Spanish-style house, which is just what we were looking for.  We looked at the house the very first weekend and liked it.  We thought the yard would be too small, but I went to look at it again on Tuesday and it is big enough, especially if we do something with the side yard.  Here are a few pictures of our new house:

We’ll need to make some changes, especially on the yard.  There are two driveways in the bottom picture–one for the garage and the other for a carport.  We are going to tear out that drive way for the carport which will then expand the yard by about 8-10 foot back.  There is already a lemon or lime tree in the yard (which will be ready to pick when we move in!) so I though we would plant either a lemon or lime and an orange tree along the side of the house.  It should be plenty sunny enough.  The front of the house has two very large palm trees, but there is still enough sun to plant some other things out there.  The previous owner had put down what looks to be lava rock in the front and side yard.  We’ll have to get rid of that.

But we are pretty excited.  The carpet is new (July) which is good and bad.  I don’t know what is beneath the carpet, but if there is hardwood floors, the carpet is going, at least in the livingroom/dining room.

It is going to be a fun year ahead…
