I just did a post about Tony Perkins and his call to get people to vote in California and his effort to keep marriage one man and one woman. As I posted that, I received another email from Tony Perkins and the Family Research about their "Values Voter Summit 2008." Before I talk about that, let me give you what Perkins had sent out to try and get people to vote:
Action Step 4: PROCLAIM: We need to proclaim the promise found in 1 Corinthians 6:9b-11: “Do not be deceived: no sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom. Some of you were like this. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” That is Good News!
So adulterers, thieves, drunks and swindlers won’t make it into heaven–but apparently they will be headlining the Values Voter Summit 2008. Here are a few:
Newt Gingrich: This guy has been married THREE TIMES. His first marriage was to his high school geometry teacher (when he was 19 and she was 26). His second marriage ended when he had an affair with his current wife. He is an adulterer and certainly not a model for the traditional family value set. And according to Perkins, Gingrich will not inherit God’s Kingdom. So why is Newt receiving top billing at this Values Voter Summit 2008???
William Bennett–known for his 2003 gambling spree. Sounds like a greedy person? I guess he won’t be inheriting God’s kingdom either. But he is still a guest at Values Voter Summit 2008 to push for family values (it is too bad about the families he has hurt with his pro-gambling stance).
John McCain–during his first marriage he started seeing Cindy Lou Hensley in 1979. He was divorced April 2 1980 and married Cindy May 17, 1980. That makes him an adulterer and I guess according to Perkins, he won’t be seeing the Pearly Gates either. But he is still invited to the Value Voters Summit 2008.
Rush Limbaugh–Married three times and divorced three times. He also has a bit of a drug problem. Boy, he sounds like a good candidate for the Values Voter Summit 2008.
What really surprised me, though, was the inclusion of Hilary Clinton. This "voter summit" is also sponsored by the Alliance Defense League. If she goes to this, then I will vote for Obama. No question.
Come on. Is this Values Voter Summit for real? Do they really think that people are that stupid? How can Perkins, at the same time he is condemning people using the New Testament verse from 1 Corinthians, get these people to headline his little dog and pony show? Ugh.
