The Olympic Torch

The Olympic torch made a brief stop in San Francisco, which is the only U.S. city where the torch was.  It was a bit of a sham though.  Many people showed up downtown to see and to protest, but it was moved to another location.  It is too bad that the people of the U.S. couldn’t protest what is happening in China.  And it reminds me of living in Sydney in 2000 when the Olympics were held.  It was really a magical time there.  We would get on the trains and everyone would be talking to everyone else.  Large screens were set up all throughout the city so that people could watch the games.  I went down with some friends to Darling Harbour to watch the relay swim race and of course I wanted the Australians to win (and they did).  It was a lot of fun.  We also went to a number of the venues–men’s gymnastics, badminton, fencing, beach volleyball and wrestling.  We had a great time.  We also went down to Sydney Harbour for the closing night fireworks.  The torch went through our neighborhood and I went down to watch it go past.  Here are some pictures I took:
