I’m not one of those people who make New Year’s Resolutions. But I will say that so far 2009 is looking good. I start teaching on Monday, and will be teaching full time (even though as a part time faculty). I’ll also be teaching on online Western Civ. I course, plus teaching another online class–Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. We also signed up to take a Monday night woodworking course which goes for 3 hours over a 10 week timeperiod. I’m also getting my dissertation ready for publication.
We’ve started doing some of the planning for the front yard garden. We arranged with a guy who knows one of our neighbors to take the palm tree stump out tomorrow. Doug really wanted us to do it, but with renting a chainsaw, a stump grinder, and then taking all the wood waste away, it is just going to be easier having someone else deal with it. Then we have to get rid of all of those red lava rocks. I’ve got a pile 20 feet long and 2-3 feet high. So far two groups of people have come by and taken a truck load each, so that is good. As long as they are gone by February, we should be o.k. Hopefully it will be sooner because I want to order another three cubic yards of compost for the front. We might be picking up our peach, plum and fig tree on Sunday when we head to our local nursery to learn how to prune fruit and citrus trees. They are having a Sunday afternoon workshop, so that should be fun (as long as it isn’t raining!). The plan is to put the fig somewhere in the front yard–so we need to prepare a spot for it.
